Te Anau

Trips and Tramps is based in the attractive lake side town of Te Anau the gateway to Fiordland, New Zealand's largest National Park, and world heritage area.  Situated alongside the largestFiordland Crested Penguin (Tawaki) seen nesting at Milford Sound September to November lake in the South Island, Te Anau is bordered by towering mountains and lush forest.  The town, with a permanent population of 3500 provides a full range of services and activities to visitors, so there are plenty of things to do while enjoying the relaxed atmosphere and picturesque surroundings.  Plus it is the closest base to Milford Sound.

Located in the Southern-West most corner of New Zealand's South Island, Fiordland National Park occupies three and a half million acres of wild and virtually uninhabited Wilderness. The sheer magnificence, vastness and mystique of this Masterpiece of Creation will be etched forever on the mind of even the most seasoned traveler.   Fiordland is a land of lofty, snow-capped Mountains, cloaked with dense and ancient forests, of glaciated valleys, exquisite lakes, crystal rivers and the classic coastal fiords of which Milford is the most spectacular.
